Congratulations to our Four Finalists – scroll down to see who was crowned winner!
We asked entrants to our 2024 LSA CA Ancient Worlds Competition, supported by the Classical Association, to submit their ideas for an ancient worlds documentary by researching and delivering a presentation in 15 minutes or less.

The Finalists
Our 2024 Grand Final showcased the fantastic work of four highly impressive young speakers from across the UK – Isla, Olivia, Sophia and Ffion gave us their pitch for the documentary they would like to make about the ancient world and we really enjoyed their talks on goddesses, Roman coins, the Orphic mysteries and the Herculaneum scrolls respectively.

Our judge, eminent broadcaster and presenter Professor Michael Scott, had a very tough decision to make with top performances from youngest competitor Isla and Lancashire award winner Sophia but he selected Ffion as his winner and Olivia as his runner up (which was matched in the People’s Choice Award) for Ffion’s very well thought out storyboard and for recognising the exciting prospects and challenges of using technology to decode the scrolls – did you know if they were unravelled they would run further than from AKS to Blackpool airport?!

The eloquence, enthusiasm and professionalism of each speaker was so impressive and we look forward to following their classics journeys – hopefully we’ll see you presenting your own documentary series soon!
