Every year, the Lytham St Annes CA holds a nationwide Classics Competition for students in years 7-13 to produce and deliver a presentation in 15 minutes or less in response to a particular question about the ancient world. The competition is free to enter, and offers young people a fabulous opportunity to research, write and deliver their own presentation, in whatever format they feel is most appropriate, to an informed and supportive audience where a warm and enthusiastic welcome is guaranteed. Further information can be found below and via the drop-down menu.
Classics Competition 2020
Are you aged 11-19 and fascinated by the ancient world? Would you like to hone your public speaking skills and present your ideas to a friendly and supportive audience? Would you like to meet Professor Hall and Dr Holmes-Henderson and be in with the chance of winning up to £200? Take part in our 2020 Classics Competition!
This year we are offering you the chance to tell us ‘Which three characters from the Ancient World would you invite to a party and why?’. A ‘character’ can be a real person, a fictional or mythological character and the Ancient World may include the Roman Empire, the Greek World and Ancient Egypt. We would love to hear your choices and why you think they would be interesting guests. For more information and all the dates and guidelines you need to know – see our Guidelines page.
In order to enter, you need to upload a video of your presentation to YouTube by Thursday 6th February 2020 (see rules here) and the committee will watch all video entries to decide who will progress to the LSA CA Classics Competition Final on Saturday 7th March 2020 at 2pm at AKS Lytham, Clifton Drive South, FY8 1DT.
This Competition is free to enter and open to any young person aged 11-19, regardless of classics or educational background. Travel bursaries may be available if the cost of travel would prevent you from attending. We look forward to watching your entries and hearing all about your chosen characters – share your thoughts, images and get others engaged on social media via @lsaclassics and the hashtag #ClassicsCompetition2020
