Every year, the Lytham St Annes CA holds a Classics Competition for students in years 7-13 (aged 11-18) to produce and deliver a presentation in 15 minutes or less in response to a particular question about the ancient world. In 2021, the Competition Final will be held virtually.
Are you in Year 7-13 and fascinated by the ancient world? Would you like to hone your public speaking and research skills and present your ideas to a friendly and supportive audience? Would you like to be in with the chance of winning a share of £450? Take part in our 2021 Classics Competition! We are thrilled to announce that celebrated broadcaster, academic and author Professor Michael Scott will judge the competition.
This year we are offering you the chance to tell us: if you could travel back in time to one day in the ancient past, which would it be and why? You may travel back to one twenty-four hour period in any part of the ancient world prior to 5th September AD 476. We would love to hear your answers and look forward to watching your video entries. For more information including all the dates and guidelines you need to know – see our Guidelines page.
In order to enter, you need to upload an UNLISTED video of your presentation to YouTube by 6pm on Thursday 11th February 2021 (see rules here) and the committee will watch all video entries to decide who will progress to the LSA CA Classics Competition Final which will be held as a Zoom webinar on Thursday 4th March 2021. The finalists will be panellists on the webinar and will deliver their presentations to a virtual audience of LSA CA members, family and friends, teachers, and members of the general public who would like to support the finalists and watch their presentations.
This Competition is free to enter and open to any young person aged 11-18, regardless of classics or educational background or location. Please contact us if you need assistance acquiring the technology required to film and upload a presentation, although presentations will be judged on classical content and presentation style rather than technical quality (i.e. phone footage is perfectly acceptable). We look forward to watching your entries and hearing all about your chosen days in the ancient past – get others engaged on social media via @lsaclassics and the hashtag #ClassicsCompetition2021
